Margaret Brierton (nee Warnes) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, on Tuesday, May 23 at her home at Aspira Barrieview Retirement Living.

Margaret is predeceased by her beloved husband Robert (Bob), and her sister Jan.

Maggie was born on March 25th, 1934 in Great Yarmouth, England. Raised in Norwich, she survived WWII and the Norwich Blitz as a young child. She met and married Robert Brierton with whom she had a wonderful, caring and loving marriage for 45 years before losing him in 1997. After immigrating to Canada in 1957, Maggie worked tirelessly to build a successful life here. Over the years Maggie worked at Regal, and also as a bank teller, loans officer and accounts manager at Bank of Montreal and also CIBC, before beginning Claessen Pumps with her husband Bob. Maggie’s passions in life included her glorious gardens, her fashion collection and tending to the many beautiful friendships that she had. However, her main passion was her family. Her love and support for those she loved was immeasurable. Her motto for life was, “kindness is always free.”

Margaret is survived by her son Paul (Tracy) Brierton, daughters Bonita (Steven) Brierton-Turner and Lisa (Andrew) Brierton-Mildon; her grandchildren Joshua, Kristin, Mishainus (Lindsay), Cole, Jacob and Ryan, and her great grandchildren Natalie and Oscar Turner.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for staff at Aspira Barrieview for all the love and support extended to Margaret during her sojourn there, as well as the many friendships with fellow residents that carried her through the last few years. Also, deepest gratitude to Dr. Mossman for her support and loving care and kindness of our mother.

If desired, donations in Maggie's memory may be made to Hospice Simcoe or to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society and are greatly appreciated by the family.
