It is with great sadness the family of Malcolm Chivers announce his peaceful passing on Tuesday October 22nd, 2024 at Matthew’s House (Hospice) in Alliston, Ontario. Malcolm was surrounded with family by his side at the age of 65 years.

Malcolm is the beloved (and only) husband of Anne-Marie (née Hamberger), loving father to Derek (Stephanie Brandt), Damien (Stephanie née Sloan), Owein and Duncan. Malcolm is predeceased by his infant daughter Meaghan (1990).

He is the proud grandad of Drake, Isabele, Lauryn, Saydie, and twins Molly and Myah. He is the devoted son of Anne Jefferson (née Hall), predeceased by his step-father Brian Jefferson (2019) and by his loving father Donald Chivers (2015). He is survived by his only brother Graham (Ingrid née Joris)

Remembered fondly by his mother-in-law Patricia Fowler, his sister-in-law Susie Hamberger (Steve Black) and his only niece, Christina Black. Malcolm is survived by his step-sister Suzanne McGinnis (Mike) and nephew Jefferson.

Malcolm will be remembered by his extended family here and the Chivers family living in the United Kingdom.  Especially the families of Uncle Ray and Uncle Michael of Chelmsford, Essex where Malcolm often longed to return.

Malcolm dedicated 32 years of his life serving and protecting others with the OPP. He was totally committed to life as a police officer in which he served many roles and retired from this career as OPP Superintendent in 2012. Malcolm was a knowledgeable and hard-working man who continued to fulfill a calling of helping others after retirement, by serving 7 more years with the Canadian Bankers Association as Director of Corporate Security. Malcolm was exemplary at whatever he set his mind to doing, he never settled for anything less than his best.

His interests were many but he loved to travel and explore the world around him. He was genuinely interested in people and always ready to help.  He loved animals, especially medium to large breed dogs. His loyal companion, 4 year old Rex, Airedale Terrier (aka “My Little Pony”) will continue with his perimeter checks and doorbell duties.

Above all, we will remember his humour, his smile and his ability to put anyone at ease.

Visitation will take place at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Saturday, November 9th, 2024 from 10:00 am until the time we celebrate Malcolm's life in the Chapel at 11:00 am. Guests are invited to remain for a reception following inside the lower lounge. Donations in Malcolm's Memory can be made to Matthew's House Hospice, RVH Health Center, The Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County or a Charity of your choice and are appreciated by the family.
