Margaret Rose Baker (nee Goodfellow)
November 12, 1937 – March 21, 2014
Passed away peacefully at the Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital on Friday, March 21, 2014, in her 77th year. The beloved wife of Brian Baker for 42 years. Proud mother of James (Meredith) Baker, grandmother of Brenna 9 and Alexander 6. Predeceased by her brother John Goodfellow (Carol) of London and dearly missed by her brother Bob Goodfellow (Sylvia) of Bruce Mines. Special aunt to Lorriane, Anne and Allan, and Michelle and Susan. She is the daughter of of the late Christina (nee Lister) and Ward Goodfellow. Born in Edenvale, she attended public school there and then graduated from Barrie Central Collegiate Institute, before entering and graduating from teacher’s college in Toronto. Most of her public school teaching was done at Warnica Public School in Painswick and some of her career at Huronia Public School. Later she spent her career at the Sheila Morrison School in Essa, completing her teaching career as instructor and supervisor of the Simcoe Learning Place. From Edenvale, she moved to Barrie, joining Burton Avenue United Church and has been a member for over 50 years. She served faithfully in various capacities, sitting on the Church Board and even as Sunday School teacher. Margaret shared her life unstintingly. She led a very full social life, starting as a member of the 4-H club. Then moving onto the Professional Girls Club, known now as the Venture Club. Later she joined the Barrie Soroptimists Club, adding the Innisfil Historical Society and Essa Historical Society to her social calendar. She enjoyed her membership in the Retired Teachers Association and dedicated her time to her family and it’s roots, becoming active in the study of genealogy and family history. Her membership with the fabled United Empire Loyalists of Canada filled her with pride. Friends may call at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 201 Minet's Point Rd., Barrie, on Friday, March 28, 2014, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm and at Burton Ave. United Church, 37 Burton Ave., Barrie, from 12 noon until time of Funeral Service at 1 pm, performed by Reverend Patricia Gail MacDonald. Spring Interment at Thornton Union Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated.
