Margaret “Peggy” McKercher (née MacIntosh) passed away peacefully on December 13th, 2024 at the age of 99. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Heather, son Ross, granddaughter Annie (Antoine) and her nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Jim, and her brother Charles (Liverpool, N.S.).
Peggy was born to Abraham and Lina MacIntosh in Cap La Ronde on Cape Breton Island and was raised with her brother Charlie in Port Hawkesbury. She was a graduate of Acadia University and went on to enjoy a career as a dietitian. Peggy worked in Halifax, Montreal and then London where she met the love of her life, Jim. They settled in Barrie in 1960 where they raised their family. A close-knit neighbourhood community, the aroma of fresh-baked goods emanating from Peggy’s kitchen, the constant traffic of friends and family combined with an atmosphere of cheerfulness and laughter are all cherished memories.
Peggy was known for her warm, gentle and loving spirit. Putting others before herself was at the core of who she was. Her concern for others and her quiet acts of kindness were demonstrated throughout her life. To honour our Mom, we suggest that you reach out to someone in need and quietly offer your time and friendship.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie.
