We sadly announce the death of Mary VanSchaick at age 82, in

Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Goirle, The Netherlands, she was the daughter of Cornelius
and Agnes Maria (Peeters) VanBijsterveldt and immigrated to Prince
Edward Island with her husband in March, 1956. Later in life, they
were long time residents of Big Bras d'Or, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Mary loved welcoming visitors and guests to their tourism business,
Mountain View by the Sea in Big Bras d'Or, which she managed for
many years. She loved gardening and chatting with her many friends
and neighbors.

Schuyler VanSchaick, her great grandchildren: Sarah, Michelle and
Kya Tippeneskum, also by her brothers, sister, brothers- and
sisters-in-law: Marinus and Anna Maria VanBysterveldt, Quirijnus
and Magdalena VanBijsterveldt, Frans Abrams, Johannes and
Jeanne VanBijsterveldt, and Adrianna and Harry van den Broek, by
Nellie Gjerlov and An (Weytens) VanSchaick, and by many nieces
and nephews. She also enjoyed the special friendship of the
Schellen family of Vernon Bridge, PEI

Mary was predeceased by her parents, by her sister Annette
Abrams, by her daughter Anna Marie and by her son Casey.

The family can be reached at: Steckley Gooderham Funeral
Homes, 30 Worseley St, Barrie, ON, L4M 1L4, Canada

visitation beginning at 1:00 PM on July 23rd, 2011.

Mary's love of children led her to be a social worker and a foster
mother to 7 children as well as welcoming many neighborhood kids
into her kitchen. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in her
name to a local charity that benefits children.

we have something of Mom in all of us.
