Marie was born in Novar, Ontario on December 15, 1932. Sadly, she passed away on January 27, 2026 at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, Ontario.
Marie was predeceased by cherished husband Bob. She was the devoted mother of five, predeceased by her daughter Bonnie, Tim (Carole), Gaye (Marty), Scott (Anna) and Heidi; loving grandmother of nine, predeceased by her grandson Jamie, Karen (Darrin), Melissa, Ashley (Brad), Hailey (Ilia), Lauren (Brendon), Christopher (Libby), Isabella and Ian; and adoring great grandmother of Nicholas, Michael, Adelaide, Logan, Andy and Josie. She was the beloved sister of Pearl and Joan, predeceased by Evelyn and Vivian. Nieces and nephews include Lynda, Wayne, David, and Brenna.
Marie started her working career teaching grades one through eight in a one room schoolhouse in Glencairn, Ontario. She finished her employment years working at Stephenson’s Jewellers in Barrie where she enjoyed working with customers and especially working with staff.
Marie volunteered with Girl Guides and Brownies for many years and eventually became District Commissioner for the Barrie area.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Waterford Retirement Home for caring for her so well with special thanks to Tara, Chelsea, Evelyn, Joyce, Elisha, Aswin and also to Holly, formerly of the Waterford staff.
Although Marie was only at Hospice Simcoe for a very short time, the family appreciates the efforts made by staff and volunteers to ensure her final hours were comfortable and would also like to recognize them for the kindness and compassion they showed to family members.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie. Interment and a Celebration of Life will be announced in the spring.
