November 16, 1923 – January 27, 2021

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Argyle on January 27 after a short courageous battle with Covid 19 at Roberta Place LTC.

Mary was born in Saskatoon on November 16, 1923. Her family moved to England and while there she enlisted in the W.R.N.S. She was very proud of her military career. She was stationed in Africa and when the war ended, she and her mates had to radio the German U-boats to surrender. She was awarded the Africa Star for her time there.

She was discharged to British Columbia where she met her husband Jack Argyle. They were married for 52 years. They eventually settled in Barrie and built their home on Carson Road and raised their two children.

Mary enjoyed travelling, having been to England, Scotland, Wales, France, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece Italy, Egypt, the Caribbean and most of the states, eventually buying a winter home in San Benito, Texas.

Mary also loved to paint and many of her paintings have won awards. She was also an accomplished square dancer.

Mary leaves behind her daughter, Elizabeth Quick (John), granddaughter Courtney Quick and two great grandchildren, Miah and Asher. She predeceased by her husband Jack, her son John, and grandson Justin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Grace Church Memorial fund and are greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie. Online condolences and memories may be left at www.steckleygooderham.com
