Komar, Mary Julia
Passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg, Ontario. Mary Komar was a woman of great faith and deep devotion to the Lord. Adored mother to Karol Komar (Jo) of Brampton, Steven Komar (Joyce) of Calgary, and John Komar (Kathryn) of Port Hope. Cherished Nana of Janine, Andrew, Jeffrey, Thomas, Charles and Joseph Komar. Dear Aunt of Marianne Vessel and Julie (Vessel) Tonini of St. Catharines., sister-in-law to Bernie Vessel of St. Catharines. Predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years; John, her beloved sister Anne (Michlik) Vessel and her precious grandson David. Loving daughter of the late Mary (Malecky) and Karol Michlik. Mary lived between two worlds; the old European heritage of her parent’s and husband’s Slovakia and her native county of Canada. Mary’s life was devoted church and family, including her 7 grandchildren, and many friends. She loved attending mass, volunteering, reading, sewing, quilting, travelling, and relaxing at the family cottage. Prayer was her strength with special devotion to our Mother of Mercy Mary and St. Anthony. Mary was born in Thorold Ontario, August 21, 1932, graduated from Thorold High School in 1950, completed her teacher’s certification in 1951 from the Hamilton Normal Teaching School in Hamilton, and graduated in 1983 with a B.A. from Wilfred Laurier University. Mary was a prolific educator; she taught primary grades at Holy Rosary Separate School in Thorold from 1952-1958, and Kindergarten and primary grades at St. Monica’s Separate School and St. Mary’s Separate School in Barrie Ontario from 1962 to 1988. She was an active parishioner of St. Mary’s Church, Barrie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests her memorial donations are forwarded to Share Life c/o St. Mary’s Church, Barrie. Family and friends may call at the STECKLEY-GOODERHAM FUNERAL HOME, 30 Worsley Street Barrie, (705) 721-9921 on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Parish prayers will take place on Tuesday evening at 8:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Mary’s Church, 65 Amelia Street. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Barrie.
