Mary Stella Lomoro (nee Licastro) passed away peacefully on May 21, 2021, at Cawthra Gardens LTC Home after a long and fruitful life at the age of 98. Mary was married to Frank Lomoro (deceased), born to Dominic and Filomena (Cuffino) Licastro on May 10, 1923 and was the last remaining sister of Joe and Louis Licastro and Lena (Licastro) Alexander. She leaves behind her loving children Lola and husband Richard Kratz, Jerry and wife Anne (Gallienne)(deceased), Frank and wife Norma Nelson-Lomoro. She also is survived by her grandson Matthew and wife Lisa (Kaufman) Kratz and great grandchildren Ethan and Garret Kratz. She also leaves behind her goddaughter Christine (Lomoro) Muzzin, godson Phillip Boucher and many more nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Mary was a strong woman who shared the task of raising and supporting a family (Lola, Jerry and Frankie, along with her husband Frank), both in the home and out in the working world during challenging times. Throughout her life, Mary worked as a seamstress for Tip Top Tailors, a letter sorter for the Front Street Post Office, a greeter and cashier in The Pine Room Restaurant at Morgan’s Department Store, a saleswoman for both The French Room Shoes and Fairweathers clothing store, and a money counter for Brinks Security in Barrie.

Mary loved going to parties, especially costume parties where she demonstrated her imagination, seamstress skills and love of having fun. She also enjoyed dancing, and together with her husband Frank would “trip the light fantastic” at the Palais Royale in Toronto.

Mary belonged to a number of organizations over the years, including the Catholic Women’s League, the Churchill Hall, LeFroy Hall, Lions Club (where she played bid and regular Euchre and bingo), and the Alcona Seniors Group where she was the president of the club and treasurer at different times. She was also a member of the Alcona Seniors Choir with her husband Frank and performed once at the Roy Thompson Hall.

She enjoyed going on outings and bus trips to different casinos. She made and enjoyed the company of many friends. Each of these friends became a lifeline to one another and stayed connected as each one passed away. Mary spent many Friday afternoons with six of her friends to play poker. This went on for many years. Lots of laughs, good food and some tears, but best of all, friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Mary loved her dance lessons throughout the winter months. The 50’s, Big Band, and the music of Mario Lanza were what she liked to listen to and dance to best.

Of the greatest joys of her life was her grandson Matthew. Mary felt fortunate that she was able to spend so much time with him from his infancy to adulthood. She was so happy when he married his university sweetheart Lisa. Her two great-grandchildren Ethan and Garret, were also very special to her, as was her niece Paulette (Alexander) Martin who was always involved in her life. Weekend family visits were always important and happy times for us all.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie. Private family interment to take place at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, 208 Sunnidale Rd., Barrie. In lieu of flowers, donations to Covenant House Toronto are greatly appreciated. https://covenanthousetoronto.ca/. Online condolences and memories may be left at www.steckleygooderham.com

A POEM WE FOUND FROM MOM DEDICATED TO:
Lola, Jerry, Frankie, Norma, Anne, Lisa, Richard and Matthew

Memories are the best,
without them there is
nothing left.
There is no room for
tears, for all the fun and
happiness we shared
throughout the years.
Our love and thoughts will
never die as long as there
is a heaven in the sky.

Love Mom
