Murray Mortimer Clark, August 1, 1922 – January 9, 2014;
Peacefully after a short illness, Murray completed his journey and went to meet his savior the Lord Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of January 9, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his wife Doris, daughter Lois and grandson Corey. He will be deeply missed by his surviving children John (Cindy), Stephen, Ruth, his grandchildren Adam, Emma, Ashley, Elizabeth, Rebecka, and Esther, his sisters Helen and Doris, as well many other family members. He was born August 1, 1922 on Scugog Island, spending his early years farming on a 100 acre farm and graduating from high school in Port Perry before he went on to University of Toronto to complete his BA, Bachelor of Education, and MA. He began his teaching career in 1947 in Capreol, Northern Ontario teaching mathematics. In September of 1950 he headed to Ethiopia, to teach in Addis Ababa, which began a lifelong love of Africa. He returned to Canada to attend Bible College in 1953, where he met his wife Doris and they were married in 1955. They went back to Africa through the African Inland Missions in 1956, arriving in Kenya, where they remained until 1960 and during that time adopted John. They returned to Canada and adopted three further children, Ruth, Stephen and Lois, returning through CIDA to Africa in 1964. Dad finished his teaching career at Lorne Park Secondary School in Mississauga in 1986 where he was known as “smiley” because of the constant smile on his face. He was a man of great faith, a gracious and gentle man, one of few words, but a person who truly put others before himself and lived a deeply spiritual Christian life. We will miss him deeply. A heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at West Park Long Term Care for the love and care they showed dad in his final days. Friends may call at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie, on Tuesday, January 14, 2013 from 7 – 9 pm. Funeral Service in the chapel on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at 11 am. Spring interment at Barrie Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated to the Salvation Army. Condolences can be forwarded to www.steckleygooderham.com
