Bumstead, Nancy May
Passed away at Hospice Simcoe, Barrie on Saturday July 12, 2014. Nancy Bumstead, in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late Walter Bumstead. Loving mother of Pauline Sellers (Ernie) of Dunrobin, Ontario, and David Bumstead of Cranbrook, B.C. Dear grandmother of Melinda and Kaitlyn and great grandmother of Astrid. Dear sister of the late John Stewart of England. Nancy will be remembered for giving spirit and sharp wit. A good friend and mentor to many. She was the recipient of Barrie's “Senior of the Year Award” (2004) for which she was, and still is, recognized for her many community works. A lifetime member of the Barrie Fair Board and the Barrie Garden Club, a long standing member since 1976 of the Quota International Service Club (Barrie chapter), member of the Red Hats, co-founder (1997) of the award winning Communities in Bloom program. Nancy exemplified what it means to be a truly involved citizen. She has left her city a better place! An avid gardener and community volunteer, with talents too numerous to mention, this feisty trailblazer will be missed by all who knew her well. Many thanks to her dear friends and neighbours who helped her in her times of need. Friends and family may call at St. Giles Anglican Church, Cook Street, Barrie on Wednesday July 16th at 12pm, until the time of the service at 2pm. Interment at Barrie Union Cemetery.
