Nancy Gwen Elizabeth Canzi (née Cameron), in her 89th year, passed away very peacefully at her home on December 10, 2023, in Barrie.

Nancy was born and raised in Barrie, and was the only child of the late Magistrate Kenneth Alexander Cameron and the late Jean Kathrine Cameron (née Culross) of Barrie.  She was a former member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Barrie, and St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Peterborough.

Nancy was a graduate of Barrie Collegiate Institute.  She then attended the University of Toronto (Trinity College), graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1956.  During her university years, she was a member of the University of Toronto orchestra where she played the flute.

Following graduation, Nancy married her late husband of 47 years, Alexander Robert Canzi, who passed away in 2003.  Together, they raised a family of five children:  Susan (Edward O’Reilly) Canzi of Barrie, David (Louisa) Canzi of Elmvale, John (Donna) Canzi of Fergus, Robert (Robin) Canzi of Norwood, and Michael (Salima) Canzi of Toronto.  She was also a devoted grandmother to Christina, Michael, Jaclyn, Alexandra, Evan, Charlotte, Cameron, and Sophia, and a great grandmother to Maya.  She was especially close to her only cousin, Joan Myers (née Culross) of Calgary.  Nancy was predeceased by her parents, as well as loving aunts and uncles Charles, Marion, and Helen Culross of Barrie, and Robert and Jean Cameron of Collingwood.

Nancy had a kind and loving heart.  She loved to laugh, and was always there to listen.  She was a charming lady with a wry wit who epitomized grace under pressure.  Nancy loved reading, classical music, art, theatre, history, and all things Scottish.  She was also a steadfast hockey mom for many years for her four sons.

Cremation has been arranged through the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home.  No visitation or funeral service will be conducted at the request of the deceased.

Memorial contributions in Nancy’s name would be welcome at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre Foundation website RVH Foundation Donation.
