Obituary for Nola Cyrus
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Nola Cyrus (nee Lewis) on January 16, 2025, at the age of 59. Born on November 27, 1965, in St. John, Grenada, Nola later made her home in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, where she touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and generosity.
Nola is survived by her loving husband, Vincent, and her cherished children, Andre (Rachel) and Simone. She was the proud and adoring grandmother of Kylo and Kayden. Nola was predeceased by her beloved son, Korey. She also leaves behind her siblings: Rodney, Owen, Gemma, Witson, Roy, Dennis, Lorraine, Michael, Francis, Stafford, Alice, and Steve as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family, including friends who were like family, who held her dear. She will also be missed by her loyal dog, Toby, and her beloved grandcat, Rengar.
Nola’s journey to Canada began in 1990 when she arrived as a live-in nanny. In 2000, she settled in Barrie, where she worked as a dedicated baker at Tim Hortons for 15 years. In her retirement, she embraced the role of a devoted wife and homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming home for her family and friends.
Nola was passionate about her plants, nurturing them with the same care and attention she gave to those she loved. She delighted in watching true crime and home improvement shows and was an avid soccer fan. Her home was always a haven of comfort and hospitality—a place where everyone felt welcome, and no one ever left hungry.
Those who knew Nola will remember her as an incredible mother, a kind and compassionate friend, and a wonderful cook. Her smile could light up a room, and her straightforward nature was both refreshing and endearing. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel like family, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial service to celebrate Nola’s life will be held; details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a charity of your choice in her memory.
Nola’s legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace.
