Norm passed away very peacefully with his family at his side at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the age of 81 years. Survived by his loving mother Vi Shoemaker, his beloved wife Elaine for 60 years, son Paul and daughter-in-law Elaine, his sister Gael and her husband Bob Cranston and mother-in-law Dorothy Carter. Proud grandfather of David Shoemaker and Megan Calvert. Great grandfather of Olivia and Chantale Calvert. He also leaves behind a nephew Bobby McGregor and his wife Jody and a niece, Susan Hughes, great nieces Brittany Hughes, Juliane Hubbard and Claire McGregor and great great nieces Rosie Hubbard, Ivy Gould and great great nephew Finn Gould. Predeceased by his father Robert Shoemaker, his uncle Robbie and Aunt Dorothy Anderson, father-in-law Hugh Carter and his very special grandmother Annie Anderson. Friends will be received at the STECKLEY-GOODERHAM FUNERAL HOME, 30 Worsley St., Barrie, on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 7-9 p.m. and again on Saturday, June 22, 2019 from 9 a.m. until the time of the Service in the Chapel at 10 a.m. Interment Barrie Union Cemetery. The family would like to express their thanks to the many caring paramedics that came to Norm’s aid throughout his illness. Norm also had excellent care from the nursing staff while on the Stroke Floor and on the Senior Care Floor. Special thanks to those who cared for us during Norm’s final hours. In lieu of flowers donations in Norm’s memory may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada and the Parkinson Association.
