Norman Vincent Traversy, Senior
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Norman Vincent Traversy, Senior,
known affectionately to most as "Norm". Norm passed away peacefully in his home
with family members and his loving wife Mair by his side. Norm was born August 25,
1927 in Ottawa, Ontario. He served with Canadian Merchant Marine during WWII, and,
after the war, with the Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian Air Force and the public
service, before retiring with over 48 years of service to his country. He married Mair
Newman, the love of his life, on April 20th, 1954 in Portsmouth, England. Together they
raised eight children; sons Norman, Paul, Mark and Jason as well as daughters Mary
Ruth Peterson, Janet Couture, Joan Traversy and Laura Armitage. Norm was
predeceased by his grandson, Maxwell James Armitage. "Taid" will be sorely missed,
never forgotten and forever loved by his many loving grandchildren and great
grandchildren. Mair and family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Sonia &
Kelly Johnson, Dr. Peter Dalziel, and to Angela Sheard and the support team at Saint
Elizabeth Health Care for their endless loving support.
In lieu of flowers, Norm's family requests that donations to his memory be made to the
Canadian Veteran's Association or to a charity of your choice. A service will be
conducted at St Joseph's church in Ottawa with internment at Notre-Dame Cemetery in
April. Norm loved his close-knit family and those around him and in return was loved
by all. His gentle spirit, loving heart and beautiful smile will be missed. Arrangements
entrusted to Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Homes, Barrie. Condolences can be
forwarded to www.steckleygooderham.com
