We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Gerry Laurin. He passed at his home in Barrie on Sunday, September 8th, 2024, at the age of 77. In keeping with Gerry’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
Gerry was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his lifelong friends, Vincent and Leslie Colucci, and Joe and Dianne De Ciantis, and their families, especially his two god-children, Matthew De Ciantis and Emma Colucci.
Gerry was born in Toronto and spent many years working as a draftsman in the steel industry, eventually owning several steel companies. He loved to bowl, and made many friends in his leagues, often travelling with them around the continent to various tournaments. Gerry also enjoyed taking vacations with friends to casinos throughout North America. He will be missed by these friends and teammates.
Gerry had an unmitigated love for music, especially R&B from the ‘60s and ‘70s. A conversation with Gerry never ended without a list of songs he wanted you to find and listen to. This love of music took him on frequent visits to Memphis, Nashville, and Cleveland, home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
His dear friends and this love of music provided significant comfort to Gerry as he faced his health challenges, and those of us who loved him are comforted by the thought that he now has an amazing seat to see Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, and Elvis.
A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, September 22nd, 2024, at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley Street, Barrie from 12 – 4 p.m. A time for prayers, reflection and memories of a life well lived will begin at 1:00.
