STEPHENS, Peter Legat (October 28,1930 - December 18, 2009)
Passed away peacefully at the age of 79 at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, ON. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 memorable and cherished years, Myrna. A staunch supporter and champion of his family, Peter was a deeply respected father and father-in law to David and Lisa, Douglas and Barb, Leslie and Tony, and Laura and Will. He was also a devoted and much-loved grandpa of Jacob Peter, Sarah, Jack, Charlie, Brody and Carly. Peter was predeceased by his mother Rosita, father Albert and brother Brian.
Peter had a 40-year career with the Bank of Nova Scotia in branches across Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta, including his last station in Angus, ON as Branch Manager. Post-retirement, Peter stayed active as an agent in title searching and medical records, and continued his lifelong commitment to community, most recently as the treasurer of the Morton House shelter in Barrie. Peter was an avid golfer and member of both the Shanty Bay and Simoro golf clubs; he scored a coveted hole-in-one last year. Together with their family, ""Pete 'n Myrn"" celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August.
The family would like to especially thank Dr. David Handley and his staff, and Dr. Homa Khonsari and his staff. The Stephens family would also like to express their gratitude to all the staff from Oncology, Imaging and Palliative care at the RVH.
Peter will be remembered for his generous spirit, dry humour, political commentary, unwavering integrity and ""stories."" His courage and optimism were an inspiration to his family and friends during his battle with cancer. Friends will be received at the STECKLEY-GOODERHAM FUNERAL HOME, 30 Worsley Street, Barrie on Tuesday from 1:00-3:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Private service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royal Victoria Hospital Oncology department would be appreciated. Online Condolences may be forwarded to www.steckleygooderham.com
