MIDDEL, Reint "Roy"
After a struggle with Alzheimer's through these past few years, Roy passed away in the late evening on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, with his wife by his side. Roy is survived by his wife, Wilhelmina, loving father of Geraldine, Reg, Fred, and Jeff, and ten grandchildren. He is also survived by his two remaining siblings, Jake and Janita. Roy lived with his mother and siblings, helping to support the family for some years before Roy's siblings began to marry and build families of their own in the Toronto area.
In 1968, Roy married a young lady from his hometown of DeWilp The Netherlands, Wilhelmina Juliana Zijp. After meeting again in Canada,
Roy had a career in quality control engineering for Litton Systems, a flight systems manufacturer, then located in Rexdale, Ontario. When he retired, he was recognized for his faithful service to the company with a gold watch, but his prized recognition was a brushed bronze clock which has since hung on the wall at every place of his residence.
He moved in 1992 to Mission, BC, where he would live with Willie for over a decade until they returned to settle in Barrie, Ontario.
Through the years, Roy has been known for his humour and wit, his enjoyment of mathematics, and his pipe smoking. Roy was also known for his love of music - he avidly played the bass clarinet, the flute, and the recorder. In his younger years, he played with his brothers and friends in a band, replaying the classic tunes of their youth.
A family service will take place in the Chapel at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley Street, Barrie, on Monday, June 1, 2020, starting at 2 p.m. followed by interment at Barrie Union Cemetery. Service will be available to the public via Livestream. Donations in Roy's memory may be made to Mill Creek Care Centre, 286 Hurst Drive, Barrie, ON for PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) or to The Salvation Army, 151 Lillian Crescent, Barrie, ON.
