Roach, Robert Charles on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Grove Park Home, Barrie. Robert endured dementia for many years, and the staff at Grove Park Home looked after him extremely well.

Husband of Isobel (predeceased March 2017), father of Robert (Ellen), Thomas (Catherine), Grandfather to Sarah (Patrick), Andrea (Peter), Hayley, Molly and Brendan, and Great Grandfather to Jade and Isobel.

Robert was born on January 20, 1925 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He joined the RCAF in 1943 and became a Wireless Mechanic, and travelled extensively in Canada. After leaving the Air Force in 1946 he attended the Veteran’s Rehabilitation School in East Hamilton, Ontario, after which he attended the University of Toronto Engineering School, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1951.

Robert married Isobel (McGarry) in 1956, and in 1971 they moved to Barrie with their two sons Robert and Thomas.

Robert’s career was at Ontario Hydro, at first in the frequency conversion department. He later moved to the new sir Adam Beck 2 Generating Plant project, and the Twin Tunnels from above Niagara Falls to just above the plant at Queenston. He moved to the position of Plant Superintendent at Decew Falls and District Generating and Transformer Station in 1960, then in 1971, Robert accepted a position as Operating Superintendent of Georgian Bay Region. He remained there until his retirement in 1983.

Robert was very interested in High Fidelity sound (building his own systems), music in general and Jazz in particular. He was a licensed Radio Amateur VE3DE. After his retirement, Robert volunteered for the Diabetes Teaching Centre at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie.

Condolences
