After a brave battle with lung cancer, Ron passed at home on Saturday May 18, at the age of 86, with his family by his side. Beloved husband of Inez (nee Kelly) for 63 years. Loving father to Greg (Annette), Terry, Colleen, Chris (Erin) and David. Proud “Danta” to Sairsha and “Grampa Ron” to Jordan.
Ron was a beloved and active member of his community and will be missed dearly by family, friends and neighbours.
A proud retired member of RCAF, Ron continued to represent his military history with pride throughout his years. Following his military career, he spent 25 successful years working as a civil servant. Ron enjoyed many years of volunteering with his local community hockey, baseball and figure skating organizations. Ron, along with his wife, raised 5 children together and enjoyed creating many years of wonderful memories with his family, especially his two beloved granddaughters.
His family would like to thank the staff at Royal Victoria Hospital and Hudson Cancer Centre for the kindness and care that they provided over the course of Ron’s illness. A special thank you to Dr’s Russell, Stevens and Lai and their teams as well as all of the nurses and staff at RVH and Bayshore Home Care who oversaw Ron’s care during his illness. Ron was fortunate and very grateful to have been in their care.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Ron’s honour on July 14, 2024 from 2-4:30 p.m., Columbus Hall, 93 Berczy St, Barrie. A memorial tribute will begin at 2 p.m. followed by light refreshments and shared memories.
