It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the peaceful passing of Ruby Anna Johnston on February 7, 2026 at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario.

Ruby, in her 90th year was the loving wife of Lawrence Johnston for over 68 years.  She was the dearly loved mother of Laurie Hickling and her husband Niel, Dave Johnston and his wife Marci, and Lisa Beausoleil and her husband Roland.  She was a very special Nana to her grandchildren:  Nathan, Chris (Gosia), Amanda (Joey), Brandon, Brody (Ruby), Ryan (Lisa), Camille (Dave), Hillary (Dale) and a beloved great-grandmother to Austin, Kaia and Calvin.

Ruby will be missed by her siblings, Edna Silverman (late Eddie) and Bruce Edwards (Norma).  She was predeceased by her sisters, Emmaline Edwards and Ruth Curry (late Eric).

She will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and also by her sisters-in-law Glenna Reynolds, Judy Green, Lois Johnston, Laura Johnston and by many other extended family members and friends.

Ruby was born on November 14, 1936 to Manley and Mary Edwards in Vasey, Ontario where she was raised on the family farm with her three sisters and one brother.  She often shared fond memories of those days with her friends and family.  They were such cherished times for her.

After attending Business College in Midland, Ruby was offered an office job in Toronto where she worked until leaving to marry her very devoted husband Lawrence in 1957.

They settled in Barrie in 1958 where they raised their three children and revelled in the lives of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

As per Ruby’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be a private family gathering to celebrate her life. Arrangements entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie.

If desired, donations in Ruby’s name may be made to Parkinson Canada, RVH or a charity of your choice.
