METCALF: Ruth Isabel (nee Jack) (WWII Veteran, Canadian Army Nursing Sister)

Passed away peacefully on December 28, 2009 in Coldwater, Ontario at the
age of 90 years. Predeceased by her beloved husband Harold (Hal) Metcalf with whom she farmed for 50 years. Ruth was very proud to be a Winnipeg
General R.N. Graduate (1942) and nursed at Stevenson Memorial Hospital, Alliston for many years. She was a lifelong curler and a former member of Cookstown Curling Club, a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star – Pinecrest Chapter (Cookstown) and Lily of the Valley Chapter (Orillia), and W.I. Member of Tec-We-Gwill and Eady Grenard. Ruth was an excellent seamstress, community volunteer and friend to many. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Loving mother of Jackie Hirvonen (Harry), Susan Stanbury (Allen) and Patricia Patterson (Dave MacMillan). Dear Gran of Jeffrey Hirvonen (Pamela) and Marja Wicks (Ryan). Ruth is survived by her sisters Evelyn Schellenberg of Penticton, British Columbia and Audrey Grier of Woodmore, Manitoba and sister-in-law, Margaret Kingsbury of Toronto, Ontario. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Saturday, January 2, 2009 at the STECKLEY-GOODERHAM FUNERAL HOME, 30 Worsley Street, Barrie from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the chapel at 12:00 p.m., with an Eastern Star Service at 11:45 a.m. In Memoriam to the Wesley United Church – Eady, Newton Robinson United Church or to The Arthritis Society.
