Sandra Alice Hill, Birkenmeyer, nee Saunders
Died peacefully at home on October 15th, 2024 with family. Predeceased by her husband John Hill and partner Len Rach. Sandra was a loving sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, step grandmother and dear friend and colleague to many.
During her working life, Sandra helped move the glass ceiling for women. She was the first female Supply Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force; Executive Coordinator, Policy Secretariat for the Ministry of Health; Senior Managing Director, TV Ontario; President and CEO for the Ontario Training Corporation and President for the Environment and the Plastics Institute of Canada. Sandra was an avid traveler and outdoors enthusiast. She did treks in Nepal and in the Andes in Peru. She was an early traveler through the Northwest Passage and Antarctica and spent a year of discovery in the Canadian North with her husband.
She will be missed by her family and by her Carleton University gang of 7, the Sugar Lake cottage group and her ladies book club of 40 years. She died as she had lived --her way.
