Obituary for Settimio (Sam) Rendina
A humble, loyal, and caring man, Settimio (Sam) Rendina passed away peacefully at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie on Monday evening, February 9, 2026, at the age of 85. He faced his final challenges with the same resilience and determination that defined his life.
Sam was born in Pescara del Tronto, Ascoli Piceno, Italy, and built a full life and career in Canada as a skilled Electronic Technician, working for IBM, Dehavilland Aircraft, and Celestica. A lifelong entrepreneur at heart, he also owned and operated Rugs, Deli and Convenience businesses, always working hard with his family in mind.
His loyalty and steadfast love were the cornerstones of his character. During his first marriage, he lovingly cared for his wife, Terisa, for over 17 years following her illness, standing faithfully by her side until her passing. He later found love again and built a beautiful 30-year marriage with his beloved wife, Jun. His devotion to her was absolute; his final words were a tender plea for her well-being: "Jun, please take care of yourself."
Sam was a man of simple, profound joys. He found peace in reading stacks of books, working alongside his wife Jun in their garden and land, and taking weekend trips with his family. He will be remembered for his quiet yet passionate character.
Predeceased by his parents, Assunta and Severino Rendina, and all his siblings, Cleto, Dina, Orazio, Ferruccio, Bruno and Mario Rendina, Sam leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. He is deeply missed by his wife, Jun; his step-son, Brian; his step-grandchildren Caden and Ethan as Nonno; and by all whose lives he touched with his gentle spirit.
Visitation and Reception will be held at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home (30 Worsley St., Barrie) on Friday February 13 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the chapel from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Entombment will then take place at Innisvale Cemetery at 3pm onward.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sam’s memory to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) Cancer Program would be greatly appreciated by the family.
