Mrs. S. Ruth Perks (nee Watson)
Passed away peacefully on December 5, 2019 in her 84th year. Ruth was born in London, Ontario and was raised in Thamesville with brother Glenn by parents Charles and Mae (Martin). Ruth attended McMaster University where she met her late husband Allan (2016). She began her teaching career in Hamilton after graduating from teacher’s college. Ruth was an atypical woman in her era managing a career, child rearing and supporting her husband’s pastoral ministry. Ruth was active throughout her life in the church as a pianist, Sunday School teacher/superintendent, or bible study leader. In her 50s, Ruth started a business ‘Country Perks’ while living on their hobby farm near Flesherton – making jams and chutneys, dried flowers and herbs, quilt making and fabric crafts. Ruth continued to quilt into her later years and has left a stash of baby quilts for her future great-grandchildren.
Married for 57 years to Allan, she was a loving mother to Heather (Rick), Jennifer (Don) and Kevin (Dawn), grandmother (Nanny) to Greg, Maggie, Ethan, Claire, Rory, Lauren, Conor and Kenzie and great-grandmother to Kaylee. She will be remembered as industrious, an avid gardener, knitter, sewer, quilter, critical thinker, and a faithful servant of Christ.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at First Baptist Church, 550 Grove St. E, Barrie ON. Visitation at 10 am, service at 11 am, and luncheon reception to follow. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie.
Donations in memory of Ruth may be made to Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM). Online memories and condolences may be forwarded via www.steckleygooderham.com
