Susan Clark (nee Weber), age 79 passed away on October 17, 2019. She was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario. Upon her graduation from Patterson Collegiate, she enrolled at Queen’s University where she earned her degree in Physical Education. While at Queen’s she played on both the women’s varsity volleyball and basketball teams. The friends that she made at Queen’s were lifelong with their last get together just two weeks prior to her death.
In 1962 she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Clark M.D. (deceased) and began her teaching career in London, Ontario. In her first year, she coached The Clarke Road Secondary School Trojans girls’ basketball team to a SWOSSA Championship.
Her teaching career was cut short as she gave birth to her eldest child in 1963. For the next 25 years she dedicated herself to raising her family. She had four children, two boys and two girls.
In 1970 she and her husband moved to Peterborough. Ontario where he set up his medical practice. She actively engaged in the community becoming involved in the University Women’s Club, St. John’s Anglican Church, the Peterborough Golf & Country Club, her children’s schools and several Bridge clubs.
In 1985 she followed her husband and immigrated to Shelby, OH. While in Shelby, she resumed her Education career at Pioneer Career & Technology Center working part-time, volunteered at schools and participated in sporting activities.
With the birth of her first grandchild in 1991, she turned to being a doting and full time grandmother to her nine grandkids. She enjoyed frequent trips to her children’s homes spread across the U.S. and Canada.
She returned to Canada in 1999 and resided in Buckhorn, Ontario on Big Bald Lake. It was here that Susan made the cottage her home, strengthened old friendships and developed new ones. The years she spent on the lake were some of her happiest as she enjoyed time spent with family. Later she moved to Barrie, Ontario to be close to her eldest daughter.
Susan is remembered for her resilience and steadfastness. She had a keen wit, ironic sense of humor and engaging personality. Ultimately she dedicated herself to her children and grandchildren always putting their needs above her own.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Archibald and Mildred Weber, and her brother, Robert (Bob) Weber. She is survived by her sister, Judy Gee and her children and grandchildren. Her children Jamie and (Kelly,) of Atlanta, GA, Carolyn and (Ian) Strath, of Barrie ON, Col. (USMC) Ian and (Kelly) of San Diego, CA and Heather and (John) Helinski of Hebron, KY and grandchildren Taylor, Larissa, Ted, Trevor, Allison, Cali, Noelle, Emma and Braden.
A funeral service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, 99 Brock Street, Peterborough on December 7th, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. There will be a reception immediately following the service in which family and friends can join in celebrating Susan’s life.
