Farrell: Rev. Deacon Terry

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rev. Deacon Terry Roy Patrick Farrell – peacefully at his home in Barrie in his 68th year, after a courageous battle with melanoma cancer.

Terry began his career with Ontario Hydro at the age of 19, and retired in North Bay as Supervisor of Electrical Inspection after 30 years of service. Terry was ordained as a permanent Deacon in 1985 and humbly served at Sacred Heart Parish (Corbeil, Ontario), St. Joseph's Parish (Fergus, Ontario), Epiphany Cathedral (Venice, Florida) and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish (Osprey, Florida).

Terry will be remembered for his gentle, caring ways, and for his pride of his family.

Throughout his life, Terry was dedicated to Jesus Christ, his family, and his community. He was involved in Boy Scouts, Knights of Columbus, IAEI. He was a volunteer firefighter, coached minor hockey and served on various Pastoral teams. In most recent years, Terry's ministry was in palliative care, offering spiritual comfort to others even as his own health failed.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife and soul mate of 44 years Beth (Holmes), daughter Jodie (Marty) James of Barrie, son Todd (Eun Kyong) of Schomberg, grandchildren Lauren, Caleb & Mace, and great-granddaughter Marah, brother Randy (Peter) of Kitchener, sister-in-law Myrna Schell, nieces and nephew of Shakespeare. Terry was predeceased by his parents Iris & Wilfred Farrell and his brother Dennis.

A special thank you to his caregivers Dr. Kelly Emerson, and the nurses and support workers from St. Elizabeth's and Bayshore.

Friends may visit at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 201 Minet's Point Road, Barrie on Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John Vianney Parish, 13 Baldwin Lane, Barrie on Friday January 21, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. Cremation to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, cheques marked specifically for Melanoma Research, 610 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5G 2M9. Online condolences may be forwarded to the family through www.steckleygooderham.com.
