With fond memories and love we remember our mother. Vera slipped away peacefully, with family at her side on Saturday, August 31, 2019 in her 94th year, at the Grove Park Home. Loving daughter of the late Ethel and George Grant. Dear sister of Joyce Grant and the late Bill Grant (Rose). Beloved wife of the late Maurice “Deac” Chappel. Dedicated and loving mother of Sandra Green (Ken), Delcie Johnston (Don), Paul Chappel (Maureen Mcgraw), Brenda-Jane McCartney (Rick), Sherry Borho (Paul), Lisa Hooker (Doug), and Krista Crockford. Proud grandmother of Mark and Brad Green, Jeffrey and Jenny Johnston, Brooke and Taryn Chappel, Matthew and Melissa McCartney, Joslyn Benham and Branden Borho, Chantal Soper and Brittany and Hayden Hooker, Corey Crockford and Holly Campeau; and great grandmother of 18. She will also be missed by her niece Tracy, nephew Colin, and her cousins. Vera was the first female guard at the Barrie Jail and was well respected by her peers, she was also a member of the Canadian Order of Foresters. Vera left a lasting impression on all those she met, helped and loved. Visitation will take place at the STECKLEY-GOODERHAM FUNERAL HOME, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Thursday, September 5th, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m., with funeral services being held in the Chapel on Friday, September 6th at 2 p.m. Guests will be invited to remain for a reception gathering in the Lounge following interment at Barrie Union Cemetery.
