A woman of grace, style and charm, passed peacefully at Coleman Care Centre, Barrie on Monday, February 4th, 2019 at the age of 98. Loving wife of the late George Stevens, who died in the line of duty with the Toronto Fire Department in 1966. Predeceased by her daughter Sandra “Sandi” Spencer (2008) and her parents Melville and Ethel Tennyson. Beloved mother and mother-in-law of Ronald Stevens (Jean) and Erick Spencer (Velta). Cherished grandmother “Gramma, Gram” of Craig (Jody), Robert, Kristi, Jennifer, David (Marni) and great grandmother “GG” of Luke, Ben and Sam. Survived by her sister Helen.
Violet was born in Peterborough, Ontario and lived in Toronto for most of her life, working as a homemaker and later, in secretarial and administrative positions with K-Line and the MTO Yonge St. license office. After retiring, Violet enjoyed spending her time in a variety of ways; socializing with friends and family, hosting her monthly book club, following the Toronto Blue Jays and Maples Leafs, dining out at local restaurants, and keeping up with the latest fashion trends. She maintained an active social life and continued to live on her own well into her 90’s.
Violet’s family would like to take this opportunity to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding care and compassion she received at Coleman Care Centre. A celebration of Violet’s life is being planned for the Spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation and would be greatly appreciated by the family (tgwhf.ca/tribute or 416-603-5300).
