Wayne Herbert Fowler
September 26, 1961 - September 18, 2023
It is with profound sadness that the family of Wayne Fowler announces his peaceful passing surrounded by his family on Monday, September 18th, 2023 at the age of 61 years. He is survived by his beloved life partner, Judy Dunsmore. Loving father of Jenny Dunsmore, Amy Dunsmore (Jeff Bisson), Donald (Christina) Dunsmore, Rachel Thompson (Mark Craig) and Amanda Fowler. Beloved son of Sheila and the late Herbert Fowler. Devoted grandfather of Jonas Dunsmore; Michael, Brianna, Scarlett and Everlee Bisson; Jacob, Matthew, Joshua and Dylan Dunsmore; and Alayna and Charles Craig. Adored brother of Deborah (Barrie) Hayes, Joyce (David) Birimcombe, Susan (Ascenzio) Farina and Gordon Fowler. Sadly missed by his many much-loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wayne was born in Newmarket, grew up in Barrie and recently moved to Port Severn. Wayne started his career at V.I.P Uniform Services and later joined Cintas in 1996, where he worked until his retirement in 2021.
Fishing was one of Wayne's life-long passions, and he particularly enjoyed his annual fishing trips to Lawaganau Lake with his father. He enjoyed being up north close to nature and spending time with his parents. He also loved his annual Florida vacations with his loving spouse, Judy. An avid sports fan, Wayne enjoyed hockey, football, baseball and many other sports, especially with a cold beer in his hand. He was also passionate about music, particularly Alice Cooper, Neil Young and the Beatles. But most of all, Wayne loved playing with his adoring grandchildren, not hesitating to make silly faces or turn a somersault to make them laugh. Wayne was a kind and gentle man, who was known for his constant smile, upbeat attitude and quick sense of humour, which he maintained to his last moments.
Wayne was a loving and devoted husband, father, son and brother, and a very proud grandfather. He treasured his immediate and extended family and his many dear friends. He will be lovingly remembered and profoundly missed by his family and friends.
Wayne fought a short but very courageous battle with cancer. The family wishes to express our deep gratitude to Wayne’s outstanding medical teams at Princess Margaret Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital who took such good care of him, including Dr. Aaron Schimmer, Dr. Laura Hawryluck, and all of the wonderful nurses and nurse practitioners who cared for him.
The family will welcome guests to visit at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Saturday, September 30th, 2023 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the Chapel at 12 p.m. A reception gathering will follow at 1 p.m. in the Lounge.
