LEIGHTON, YVONNE E. (nee HAMMOND) July 14th, 1921 – April 4th, 2010

After a lengthy illness, Yvonne Leighton passed away in Newmarket on Sunday April 4th. Yvonne was the widow of Gordon Leighton (May 1st, 1995). Gord and Yvonne were married in Toronto in 1942 and moved to Barrie in 1960. Yvonne and Gord were active members of the Barrie Golf and Country Club and spent many happy days golfing and socializing with their friends. Yvonne & Gord enjoyed a long and happy marriage, traveled extensively and spent their winters in Florida golfing. Yvonne was the beloved mother of James Hammond Leighton (Jim) and his wife Jean Holbert-Leighton (St. Catharines) and Richard George Leighton and his wife Patricia Bellaire (Newmarket). She was the loving grandmother- “Bubba” of Lauren E. Leighton (Manhattan, NYC & St. Catharines) and Alexander Leighton (Newmarket). Yvonne will be sorely missed by her wonderful furry companion “Tigger” who gave her so much joy in her final years. Yvonne was a fun loving grandmother who took immense pride in the accomplishments of her grandchildren and will be missed for her laughter and board game playing. We would like to thank Yvonne’s wonderful circle of thoughtful friends in Barrie who were so kind and caring and all the doctors and nursing staff that helped to make her final days comfortable. Friends may call at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home (30 Worsley St.) Barrie, from 2:00 p.m. on Saturday May 1, 2010 until the time of the Memorial Service in the Chapel at 3:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place. If desired, donations may be made to the Barrie Humane Society. Condolences may be forwarded through www.steckleygooderham.com
